Glynn 40th Class August 4th
& 5th 2006 Jekyll Oceanfront
Resort Approximately 145 classmates, spouses, significant others
and family members gathered at the Jekyll Oceanfront Resort for fellowship,
food, some music and dancing. The reunion committee started the planning process in
earnest in January so it was a pretty short fuse to plan an event of this size.
Based on the comments on those attending, a great time was had by all. Friday night featured a cocktail party by the pool with
light Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. We were able to take advantage of the live
music that is a staple of the Jekyll Oceanfront during the summer months. The
exciting thing about Friday night is that classmates are seeing people for the
first time in many, many years. Some classmates were attending their first
reunion. Some have changed a lot and some are still very recognizable from
their high school days. One of the most gratifying results of reaching the age
we are is how nice everyone was and how genuinely glad people were to see each
other. For the vast majority, mingling, catching up on each other’s lives and
getting up close and personal was evident everywhere. Let’s face it; the Class
of 1966 produced a bunch of nice people. It was past midnight and people were
still hanging out by the pool getting the latest scoop on kids, grandkids,
jobs, retirements, military service and more. Saturday night events
again took place by the pool, but in the Poolside Pavilion, which is a large,
air-conditioned space, and a great venue for a party. Heavy Hors d’oeuvres, a
DJ (a great job was turned in by Tommy Tucker of “Dancejammers”) and a cash bar were featured. We were able to put
our registration table right at the door so all elements were in one room,
which simplified the logistics and made for a smooth evening. Again, everyone
seemed to have a great time eating, drinking, socializing and dancing the night
away. A big thank you goes to the reunion committee. Marilyn
Bryson Daly, Jody Finleyson and Linda Gibson Blood, who did a superb job both
nights with decorations. Also Paul Duval who built and will continue to
maintain this website: www.glynnacademyclassof66.com
which we hope will continue to be a great point of contact and source of
information for classmates and others. Shirley Martin, while dealing with a
family crisis, got rave reviews for conducting a fun tour of Jekyll’s Historic
District. Steve Roberts for putting together the Saturday morning golf outing
that was enjoyed all who played, and finally, the heart and soul of the
committee, Ann Roberts Harrell who did everything from registration (with help
from Jody) to compiling the biographical data and publishing the reunion book.
Ann continues to be the Most Valuable Player on the reunion team. We placed cameras on the tables both nights so there will be
plenty of photos published on our website in the next couple of weeks. Paul has
his work cut out for him. Also, thanks to members of the classes of ‘59, ‘63,
‘64, ‘65, ’67, ’68 and ’79 who joined us for the weekend. James Vivenzio,
